KUCHING: Over 200 guests from Housing Development Corporation (HDC), Ministry of Housing and HDC subsidiary company Daya Builders Sdn Bhd attended HDC Ngiling Tikai 2013 yesterday.
The ceremony was held in conjunction with the closing of the Gawai Dayak celebration.
Present were the guest-of-honour Minister of Housing cum Tourism Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Openg, assistant ministers of Housing Datuk Francis Harden Hollis and Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah and HDC chief executive officer Wan Yusop Wan Moss.
“These events mirror the close relations of our multi-racial community through the sharing of all the good values.
To me, this is in line with our 1Malaysia concept,” said Abang Johari during the event.
He also said that the Gawai celebration is unique as it is only celebrated in Sarawak.
“Our celebration today provides the opportunity for the Dayak and non-Dayak people to witness and feel the tradition of the Gawai celebration,” said Abang Johari.
During the ceremony, guests were treated to a Kumang and Keling Gawai competition besides cultural performances and lucky draw competitions.
