Salleh’s son elected SLA secretary

KOTA KINABALU: The Sabah Law Association held its annual general meeting to elect its office bearers for the term 2013-2015 at the Le Meridien Hotel, Kota Kinabalu, June 27.

Incumbent president Datuk GBB Gaanesh Nandy @ Gaanesh and vice president Catherine Chau respectively maintained mandate for their posts. Gaanesh obtained 185 votes to defeat his challenger Jeyan Marimuttu who obtained 122 votes, while Catherine obtained 174 votes to resist the challenge of Gabriel Ho, a senior lawyer from Sandakan.

Meanwhile, Syarulnizam Salleh was elected as the new secretary of SLA after defeating incumbent Roger Chin.

Syarulnizam, who is the eldest son of State Speaker Datuk Sri Panglima Salleh Tun Said, earned 186 votes while Roger managed to garner 122 votes. Syarulnizam Salleh, 25, was previously the chairperson of the SLA Human Rights Subcommittee.

The rest of the SLA Executive Committee 2013-15 were uncontested positions. Brendonn Keith Soh maintained his post as treasurer, while Mohammed Nazim Maduarin gained the position of assistant secretary. There were seven other newly elected committee members in the SLA Executive Committee: Chan Wai Ling, Zakaria Ahmad, Wendy Lee, Salmi Zalinah Abdul Rahim, Ryan Soo, Liau Kee Siong, and Vanessa Marimuttu.
