NO FOUL PLAY: The body of the deceased in a police vehicle at the Sarawak General Hospital.

KUCHING: A 46-year-old man was found dead at a farm hut in Kampung Simpok, Padawan, on Friday night from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.

His brother-in-law, who had spotted the Perodua Viva driven by the victim parked nearby, found him slumped over a wooden chair inside the locked hut around 7pm.

Sources said there was a bullet wound to the left side of his head, and a .22 calibre rifle was found next to his body.

The motive behind the apparent suicide was unclear, although the deceased, who worked with an air freight company, was reported to have gone missing two days earlier.

A forensic team from the state police headquarters found a spent bullet casing at the scene, with four more live bullets inside the rifle’s magazine.

Police is trying to establish if the deceased had a licence for the weapon.

Acting Kuching police chief Supt Abang Ahmad Abang Julai, when contacted, said initial investigation had ruled out foul play.

“We do not believe there was any foul play involved in the death, and are waiting to interview his family members to establish the motive of the incident,” he said.
