KUCHING: Two reporters from a national daily based in Peninsular Malaysia became victims of a robbery in the city early yesterday morning.

The victims, both in their 20s, had just come back from covering the finale of the Rainforest World Music Festival (RWMF) on Sunday when robbers relieved them of their personal belongings around 2.30am.

The drama unfolded as the duo took a shuttle from the festival site and were dropped off at the entrance of a hotel near Padang Merdeka.

They were on their way back to their hotel in Padungan when two men came and one of them threatened them with a knife and ordered them to surrender their belongings.

The male victim was cut on the arm and wrist while tussling with the robbers.

Meanwhile the female victim attempting to run for help was pursued by the second robber.

The robbers fled with her handphone, a purse containing some documents and RM1,000 cash.

The victims lodged a report at Padungan Police Station and were subsequently brought to a One Stop Centre for further investigation.

Both victims were due to fly back home yesterday morning.

Police are investigating.
