Roti canai seller has death sentence affirmed

KUCHING: A roti canai seller convicted for killing an imam 10 years ago and was sentenced to death had his final appeal dismissed by the Federal Court here yesterday.

The appellant, Ibrahim Mohamad, appeared calm when the five-judge panel made a unanimous decision affirming the death sentence imposed by the High Court in Miri after he was found guilty of murder.

Ibrahim was sentenced to death on Sept 26, 2005 after he was found guilty of killing Ikhsan Mustapha at Masjid Al-Taqwa in Jalan Merpati, Miri about 8.30pm on June 19 2003.

In the same court room, two murder convicts failed in their attempt to dismiss their death sentence for killing a man six years ago.

Muhammad Zulfikar Ahmad Muhmmad and Lawrence Leong Collin were found guilty and convicted for murdering Arifuddin Jamali, six years ago, by the High Court in Bintulu.

They committed the offence between 8pm and 9.30pm on March 24 2007 at the back lane of a house at RPR Sungai Plan in Tanjung Kidurong, Bintulu.

Murder, an offence under Section 302 of the Penal Code provides a mandatory death penalty upon conviction.
