KUCHING: Making its second appearance this year, the Kuching North City Commission (DBKU) Bubur Lambuk programme this time will be participated by 21 villages under DBKU’s jurisdiction.

The porridge, synonymous with the Ramadan month, is a popular dish for Muslims to break fast with.Kuching North commissioner Datuk Abang Abdul Wahap Abang Julai said the programme is aimed at fostering closer ties between neighbours and local residents, besides being a platform for the community to interact and to create a caring and dynamic community through charity or through the practice of ‘sedekah’.

“This is the second year that we are doing this programme and we got more people to participate in, 21 villages/areas under DBKU

“The cooking utensils are provided by the community while DBKU is the facilitator. DBKU has the support and commitment in terms of logistics and other necessities,” said Abang Abdul Wahap at a press conference yesterday.

The programme is a cooperation between three parties – the government, community and the private sector. And to make it a success, it is started by the village or Kawasan Kejiranan Mesra that forms a special committee.

The special committee has an important role in forming a network that can cooperate to form a bond for a win-win situation for all. Sponsorship for the event include one tonne of rice by Padiberas Nasional Berhad (Bernas), chef’s hat, cooking gas and banner by Petroliam Nasional Berhad (Petronas), RM11,500 cash by Malaysia Building Society Berhad (MBSB), kiosk, plastic containers, buntings, fishtail and Cukup Rasa seasoning by Nestle.

On a related matter, he said 50 needy families had been identified from five villages to receive RM150 worth of basic needs each, sponsored by MBSB.

After the press conference, a symbolic handing over of the sponsorships was also held.

The programme will be launched on July 13 at 4pm at the Kampung Tunku community centre by the mayor himself.
