KOTA KINABALU: A 14-year-old girl, believed to be a person with disability, was killed in a road accident while crossing the Tuaran Road, near Aminuddin Baki College in Telipok on Wednesday night.
Siti Hussin from Telipok succumbed to serious head injury at the scene after a van knocked her around 11.20pm on July 3.
It was believed that the victim was standing on a road island, trying to cross the road to the other side when the van which was heading to the city centre from Telipok, knocked her.
The victim was thrown a couple of metres due to the impact and died at the scene.
City police chief ACP Jauteh Dikun confirmed the incident, saying the 47-year-old van driver had been remanded to assist the police in their investigation.
He said the victim’s body had been taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital for a post-mortem and family members had been notified.
Jauteh said the case would be investigated under Section 41 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
He urged eyewitness to come forward to assist the police in their investigation.
