KUCHING: The State Education Department kicked off ‘Active Month’ by holding a 10,000 Footsteps Walk-a-thon 1Student 1Sport event yesterday.

The nationwide ‘Active Month’ was simultaneously launched in Putrajaya yesterday, said State Education deputy director Jaedah Alek, to get students to be active in sports activities.

“The walk-a-thon started in 2007 to involve students and the teaching body to join energetic activities. It was also to inculcate and create awareness amongst students on the importance of keeping active,” she said at the event.

It began at the State Education office in Jalan Diplomatik where participants walked to the Indoor Stadium and back for a total of 10,000 footsteps on the return walk. Jaedah was relieved the weather was ideal for the launch, where some 200 people turned up and were guided through a warm-up session before the walk.
