SIBU: The increasing number of fire cases in the state has prompted Welfare, Women and Family Development Minister Datuk Fatimah Abdullah to call on all quarters to be careful with fire to prevent any more fire outbreak.

“Whether we are in the kampong, longhouse or urban area, we all need to be more careful with fire,” she said yesterday, after presenting relief aids to victims of the recent fire which destroyed a row of wooden houses at Lane 13, Tiong Hua Road here.

There had been five fire cases here over a period of two months, with the first hitting an industrial building at Lanang Road on May 20.

The others are the Kampung Datu/Hilir on June 19, Blacksmith Road last Monday, Tiong Hua Road last Tuesday and the one at Channel Road last Thursday.

Fatimah, who is Dalat assemblywoman, said many fire outbreaks were caused by carelessness in the kitchen.

“And, when doing wiring in the house, make sure that you get people who have the expertise to do the job,” she advised.

With her at the handing over of aids were Social Welfare Department state director Noriah Ahmad and its Sibu Division office assistant director Mohamad Guntor Rajaee.
