Ministry of Works to help solve landslide problem

MIRI: The Ministry of Works will look for funds to help the state to address the problem of landslides at four identified locations at KM13 and KM14 along a stretch of Kejapil Beraya, Bakam road.

Although the affected areas were under the state government’s jurisdiction, Minister of Works Datuk Fadillah Yusof said his ministry would try its best to look for the best solution in view of the safety of road users.

“We will discuss the matter with the state government including looking for the budget.

“For the safety and convenience of road users, there is an urgent need to solve the problem effectively,” he told the media during his site visit yesterday.

The problem was highlighted to him by Lambir assemblyman Ripin Lamat and the villagers of Beraya area. Remedy work at two affected locations had actually been entrusted to Ikram and CMS Road Sdn Bhd.

Ikram has completed the study on the two affected locations and remedy work will start soon.

An estimated budget of RM3 million had actually been allocated for the area at KM14.

Ripin, Public Works Department (JKR) Miri divisional engineer Goh Soon Boon and personnel from Ikram and CMS Roads were also present at the site visit.
