DALAT: Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) still needs the leadership of Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud as he has the ‘glue factor’ that unite and strengthens the party, the Barisan Nasional (BN) component parties in the state, and the people, said PBB deputy Wanita chief Dauk Fatimah Abdullah.

She said without the chief minister leading the party, it would be difficult to envision the future of the party in particular and the state in general.

“Pehin Sri Abdul Taib has this ‘glue factor’ which is necessary to lead the party as well as the state. He is able to unite our multi-racial people,” Fatimah told The Borneo Post BAT III team after chairing the PBB Kampung Teh sub-branch Triennial General Meeting (TGM) near here yesterday.

That was one of the resolutions of the meeting.

The TGM also passed a resolution urging Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak to continue leading the country.

“We need their strong leadership to lead this state and country to face the challenges both from within and from outside,” said Fatimah, who is also PBB Kpg Teh sub-branch chairperson.

On her political future, Fatimah, who is also Minister of Welfare, Women and Family Development, said she was happy being the deputy Wanita chief and would not rock the boat.

“I am happy to be where I am. Let’s put it this way, if it’s not mine, it’s not mine.”

The current PBB Wanita chief is Dato Sri Empiang Jabu.

Fatimah also explained the unwritten rule in PBB that if the Wanita chief is a member from Pesaka, then the Youth chief will be  a member from the Bumiputera wing.

PBB Youth chief is currently  Works Minister and Petrajaya MP Datuk Fadillah Yusof.

On the recent appointment of two PBB Wanita members as full ministers in the federal cabinet, Fatimah said both of them, Datuk Rohani Karim, who is PBB Wanita vice-chief, and Nancy Shukri, PBB Wanita secretary, were capable leaders.

Rohani is Minister of Welfare, Women and Family Development and Nancy is Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department.

“With the appointment also comes heavy responsibilities and challenges.

“But I believe both of them are capable of becoming leaders for all Malaysians.”

Meanwhile, Fatimah, who is also Dalat assemblywoman, said currently there are 10 longhouses in Ng Baoh area which still do not have basic amenities such as treated water, electricity and roads.

Another 12 longhouses in Ng Sikat and four in Ulu Ng Sikat also need similar facilities.

Dalat has a population of 24,329 people, with the majority of them Melanaus.

There are also a substantial number of other races such as the Chinese and Ibans.
