KUCHING: Pamg Joheng was overjoyed on finding out his daughter Pandelela Rinong’s latest success in winning the bronze medal at the 15th FINA World Championships in Barcelona, Spain.

News of his daughter’s latest triumph was broken to him by The Borneo Post yesterday.

National diver Pandelela partnered Leong Mun Yee to claim third place in the women’s 10m syncronised platform final early yesterday morning (Malaysia time).

Pamg said that his daughter sounded upbeat before she left for the World Championships.

“Before leaving for Spain, she did contact me and told me that she was excited to go there to compete. As I wished her good luck, I could sense that she was really focussed and determined as always,” he revealed.

He said he was unable to monitor Pandelela’s latest performance as he was unable to reach her via mobile phone.

“There is nothing that I could say except words of praises for my daughter. Apart from that, my only hope is that she continues to win more medals for Malaysia,” he added.

Pandelela and Mun Yee accumulated 331.14 points at the iconic Montjuic Municipal Pool, acquatics venue for the 1992 Olympic Games.

The Chinese pair of Chen Ruolin and Liu Huixia took the gold with 356.28 points while the silver went to Canada’s Roseline Filion and Meaghan Benfeito with 331.41 points.

It was four years ago that Pandelela and Mun Yee won Malaysia’s first-ever medal in the world championships when they also clinched the bronze in the same event in the 2009 edition in Rome, Italy.
