KUCHING: The state government would like to see Kuching South City Council (MBKS) work with Guro City of Seoul Metropolitan Government for mutual benefits.

Second Finance Minister Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh said their working relationship should not be confined to only collaboration in trade and commerce. It should include education, tourism, and cultural development.

“By working together, the people in South Korea and Sarawak will come closer together and form social ties,” he said in his speech prior to witnessing the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on the friendly exchanges and cooperation between both parties yesterday.

Guro was represented by vice Mayor Han Soo-Dong and MBKS by Mayor Datuk James Chan at MBKS headquarters here.

Chan, in his speech, noted the enormous changes and phenomenal growth of Guro City in recent years.

“Guro’s strong economic growth will present many opportunities for both Kuching and Guro to work together. Both sides can forge strategic and mutually rewarding partnerships in areas such as tourism, healthcare, industrial park, education, culture, horticulture, engineering and the arts,” Chan remarked.

The MoU, he added, would enhance ties between the people of both cities in many areas.

“Among them is economic exchanges and cooperation between businesses and Chamber of Commerce in both cities, as well as the promotion of education, cultural and youth exchanges with Guro City.”

Also present at the ceremony were MBKS Deputy Mayor Abang Affendi Abang Anuar and Guro district vice chairman Park Jong Hyeon.
