SRI AMAN: The government should consider building community colleges in Sri Aman division for the many school leavers who are seeking alternative ways to further their education.

Sri Aman MP Masir Kujat, who was re-elected Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) Simanggang division chairman for 2013 to 2016, said this was one of the resolutions made during their meeting.

He pointed out the government should give due consideration to the suggestion as this will be of benefit to many youths who wish to save cost and not migrate to bigger cities in the country.

“With the community college, youths will be able to stay back in their home town and save costs. Hopefully the community college will make them stay and that they will not bring more social problems if they go to bigger towns in search of jobs,” he elaborated at a recent just-concluded PRS annual general meeting.

Masir also agreed with another resolution on the setting up of Rural Growth Centre for rural development in Sri Aman and proposed that the government review again the Act and law of Native Customary Right land.

He called on the Public Service Commission (PSC) to elaborate on the allocation of quota for the Dayak community to join the civil service and the total applications and those who been appointed to the civil services.

“This is based on the promise that PSC will allocate 100,000 applicants from the Dayak of Sarawak,” he added.

Masir then thanked the voters for giving him another mandate to serve as their MP for a second term in the 13th general election, and he hoped that the PRS Simanggang members would give their full commitment in helping the people of N27 Simangang.

The meeting was attended by 190 PRS members at a local restaurant in town.

Apart from Masir who leads the division’s main body, the other notable office bearers are Andrew Gumba (deputy chairman) and Noel Eddie (secretary).

The women wing is led by Lai Siew Tan as chairwoman, Serina Elie (deputy chairwoman) and Mary Illai (secretary).

The youth chief is Audie Samuel, Dris Abing (deputy) and Surai Anthony Abell (secretary).
