BAD AIM: The ugly scene of the bin centre at Pelita Commercial Centre, with litter ‘missing the target’.

MIRI: Miri City Council (MCC) will not hesitate to convert the bin centre at a commercial centre into car parking lots, if people continue abusing the centre by throwing rubbish improperly.

Miri mayor Lawrence Lai expressed his disappointment over some uncivil minded people who have turned the bin centre into a free-for-all dumping ground with litter missing the target.

“It was sad to note, the bin centre which was built for  the convenience of the  surrounding shop owners at the  commercial centre, has been totally abused.

“Rubbish has been thrown outside the bin and the centre’s floor, even worse throwing      the rubbish on the centre’s rooftops, thus turning the area into  an ugly scene,” he said during the full council meeting recently.

Although a number of advice has been dispensed, Lai pointed out that the situation has not improved due to the ignorance of the people.

“If the situation does not improve, we are going to dismantle the bin centre and convert the area into car parking lots.”

Thus far, he said the council has dismantled three bin centres and converted it into new parking lots.

Touching on an unrelated issue regarding car parking lots, he again warned the people not to abuse the parking lots for personal interest.

“It is already clear that car parking lots are for motorists to park their vehicles. I don’t understand why some people still abusing the parking lots for trading purposes and motorcycles have parked at the car parking lots of which is not designated for them.

“Thus, such a situation has contributed to the fake shortage of car parking lots.”

On this concern, he directed his men under enforcement to monitor the situation closely.

He also asked for full cooperation from the business operators by not abusing the car parking lots in front their business premises.
