KUCHING: A man, in his 20s, not only failed in two attempted robberies at Matang Jaya here yesterday morning, but was also given ‘street justice’ by members of the public before he was surrendered to the police.

In the first incident that occurred around midnight, the suspect threatened a burger stall owner to surrender his money at a knife point.

The owner however, managed to grab a metal rod and tried to hit the suspect with it.

The suspect then fled from the scene while being chased after by the victim and his friends.

In the second incident, the suspect tried to steal a motorcycle belonging to a security guard of an electrical shop but his attempt also failed.   As both his criminal attempts failed, he slashed the canvas outside the shop with a penknife apparently due to his frustration.

He however could not escape as his action was noticed by a passer-by who did the arrest.

Before being surrendered to the police in a mobile patrol vehicle who arrived shortly after being informed on the incident, he was beaten up by the public and suffered injuries.

The suspect was later brought to the police station for investigation and also to receive treatment.
