JERANTUT: Muslims in this country have been urged not to act like ‘parasites’ and to avoid conflicts that can weaken the community and Islam.

The Tengku Mahkota of Pahang, Tengku Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah said Islam is facing pressure from various parties and Muslims should not add to the hostilities.

He said Muslims must defend Islam, the country and prosperity and not act like ‘parasites’ with their selfish attitude due to different political beliefs.

“The turmoil in Syria, Egypt, Iraq and other Middle East countries should be a lesson to Muslims in Malaysia.

“It has led to civil war and destruction as the people become refugees and face safety concerns and food shortage.”

Speaking to reporters after presenting contributions to orphans and the poor in Kampung Kuala Tembeling, he said Pahang had long banned the Shia belief as Muslims in the state practise Sunnah Wal Jamaah.

Tengku Abdullah said Pahang will gazette the fatwa banning Shia belief to avoid any confusion and distortion of faith of Muslims in the state.

“The announcement of the ban of Shia in the state was announced several years ago,” he added. — Bernama
