Validity of appointment as Penghulu questioned

KUCHING: The validity of the appointment of Jidokson Raway as Penghulu for Singai area in Bau has been questioned by SPDP Tasik Biru treasurer Gines Ruwia.

He reasoned that there are many others who are more qualified than Jidokson to fill the post.

“When did he (Jidokson) earn that title? From what I know, the post of Singai Penghulu is still vacant and a replacement has not been named. SPDP Tasik Biru had recommended someone else more qualified but not Jidokson,” said Gines yesterday.

Based on a report carried by The Borneo Post on July 24, Jidokson claimed to be a Penghulu and spokesperson for community leaders in Singai.

The newspaper quoted Jidokson as saying the community leaders were losing their patience and could no longer tolerate the series of condemnation against them by Gines for allegedly supporting independent candidate Datuk Dr Tiki Lafe in the May 5 general election.

Jidokson had also said besides using the newspapers to condemn them and even Tasik Biru assemblyman Datuk Peter Nansian, Gines made full use of the short messaging system (SMS) to attack them.

In his response, Gines said he was merely sharing his views which were well-intentioned although the words used might sound provocative.

“(It was) with the good intention on what I think are good for us to move forward. Apparently, there are people who are not happy when I raised the issue of leadership as the stumbling block in our progress,” he said.

On another matter, he said the events in Mas Gading before and after the general election strongly confirm that SPDP is the legitimate BN camp in Tasik Biru.

Since Tasik Biru is allocated to SPDP, he said any other camp should not influence others to disparage the chances of defending the seat for BN.

The seat is currently represented by Nansian, who won the seat on BN-SPDP ticket in 2011. Nansian is now partyless, having been sacked by SPDP in 2012 while SPDP has indicated that a new face would be fielded for the seat.
