LIMBANG: Consumers in Limbang are urged to shop smartly and watch out whether traders abided strictly by the latest Hari Raya Festive Season Price Control Scheme 2013, aimed to combat rising prices of essential goods in the market.

Head of the Limbang Branch of the Ministry of Domestic Trade, Co-operatives and Consumerism (MDTCC), Jubin Janggong said the price control scheme for 17 controlled items in Limbang and Lawas Districts had been enforced starting July 26 until Aug 11.

The essential items under the scheme include live chicken (RM8.70/kg), standard chicken (slaughtered and dressed chicken with legs, head, liver and gizzard) at RM11/kg; super chicken (slaughtered and dressed chicken without legs, head, liver and gizzard) at RM11.50/kg; imported beef (RM24/kg); chicken eggs of Grades A, B and C respectively at 41, 40 and 39 cents; imported round cabbage (excluding Beijing cabbage) at RM3.50/kg; red chilli (RM14/kg); tomato (RM6/kg); whole grated coconut (RM5/kg); imported groundnut (RM8/kg); shallot (India) at RM6.50; imported onion (RM4.50/kg); garlic (China) at RM 6.50/kg; imported potato (China) at RM5/kg and Indian mackerel at RM10 per kilogramme

He said it was not only compulsory for traders to sell the controlled items at the stated ceiling price or lower but were also required to put price tags on all items including pink price tags on controlled items.

“I also ask for cooperation from all parties including traders and wholesalers to abide strictly by the price control scheme 2013. Consumers too must cooperate in reporting those who contravene the regulations,” he said in a statement yesterday.

He said those who fail to place the pink tag can be fined up to RM10,000 for individual traders and up to RM20,000 for companies.

Individual traders caught selling controlled items above the ceiling price will be slapped with a fine up to RM100,000 or three-year imprisonment and up to RM500,000 for companies.
