CM: Many bumis unaware of opportunities created

KOTA KINABALU: Many people are not aware of the business opportunities that have been created by the government to benefit Bumiputera entrepreneurs in the state, said Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman.

He said it has been part of the federal and state governments efforts to ensure that Bumiputera are not denied the chance to excel in business.

“Unfortunately, not many are aware or understand these opportunities which is created by the various agencies.

“In fact, when we carry out seminars or workshops on the issue, there has been very poor attendances, which limits our effort to share with them the assistance and benefits created by the government,” he said.

Musa, however, encouraged the Bumiputera chambers of commerce to continue organising business seminars and workshops and to reach out to as many people as possible.

Speaking during the breaking of fast cum Solat Terawih event that was jointly organised by the Dewan Perniagaan Bumiputera Sabah (DPBS), Dewan Perniagaan Melayu Malaysia Negeri Sabah (DPMMS) and Persatuan Pedagang dan Pengusaha Melayu Malaysia (Perdasama) on Wednesday, he also said that successful Bumiputera entrepreneurs should share their experiences with the newbies.

“There is nothing wrong in taking that initiative to share and guide the new entrepreneurs to success. I would also encourage business operators in Sabah to venture into growing industries such as oil and gas,” he said.

Also present were DPBS chairman cum organising chairman, Datuk Mohd Hasnol Ayub, Assistant Finance Minister cum Perdasama chairman Datuk Ramlee Marhaban and DPMMS chairman, Datuk Awang Buhtamaman Awang Mahmun.
