MPB to work with Mampu to upgrade its ICT facilities

KUCHING: Government departments and agencies should seek the service of Malaysian Administrative Modernisation and Management Planning Unit (Mampu) in developing and upgrading their information and communication technology (ICT) which is free of charge.

Minister in Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Joseph Entulu, who is minister in-charge of Mampu, said those who engaged Mampu in the development of their ICT programmes would be able to save themselves a lot of money compared to hiring other people’s services.

Thus, he said Malaysian Pepper Board (MPB) had made the right move by working together with Mampu to upgrade its ICT facilities, thereby improving its service to stakeholders and pepper planters in particular.

“I was informed that through this free consultancy service provided by Mampu, MPB is able to save more than RM100,000, which is a substantial amount,” Entulu said.

He said this at the presentation of documents for the consultancy service to upgrade the MPB ICT programme here yesterday.

He said such a joint effort would certainly give greater impact to MPB whose role would be even more significant for the National Community Policy (NCP) from 2010 to 2020, which is to increase the export value of the pepper from RM245 million in 2012 to RM650 million by the year 2020.

“In view of this, the industry requires higher value-added activities such as researches to produce new high-end pepper products, use of latest technology through ICT innovation equipped with skilled human capital to boost the economic growth in bigger scale,” he said.

Entulu said that it was therefore most appropriate for MPB to improve its ICT centre infrastructures which include the server room and data centre as they ensure the reliability of an ICT system in any organisation.

“MPB is so far the first in the state to work with Mampu in the development of ICT and I hope that this will not be the first and the last. I believe more and more will emulate their move.

“After all, the consultancy service by Mampu is completely free of charge,” Entulu said.

Among those present at the occasion yesterday were MPB chairman Datuk Henry Sum Agong, Mampu director general Datuk Wira Omar Kaseh, MPB director general Grunsin Ayom, Mampu (ICT) deputy director general Datuk Dr Nor Aliah Mohd Zahri and State Federal Secretary Datu Yahaya Basimin.
