KOTA KINABALU: Six orphans from Al Mughni Orphanage and Welfare Association got the chance to shop for new clothes for the coming Aidilfitri celebration at Servay Hypermarket, KK Plaza at 10am, here yesterday.

The Raya shopping event was funded by SIDMA College amounting to RM2,000, and the orphans got the chance to choose their own Raya clothes.

Mohd Syahrul Nazman Matji, 12, and his younger nine-year-old brother Mohd Syayhaizam Matji said SIDMA College gave them a very special Raya this year.

The siblings of seven who lost their father eight years ago are fully dependent on their 45-year-old mother, Dayang Rosmah Awang Besar.

Dayang, who is working in a local hotel, said she was really grateful for the help from SIDMA College for bringing joy to the family during Raya.

SIDMA College chairman Professor Dr Morni Kambrie, who is also the founder of the association, said this program was held to help ease the burden of the orphans’ guardians as the preparation of Raya required a lot of money.

Al Mughni, the newly registered non-governmental organisation, was founded five months ago.

The association has six orphans aged five to 12 from Putatan and Beaufort, and it has been providing the orphans with daily pocket money to school as well as for buying school equipment like uniforms, bags, shoes and stationery.

According to Morni, the association is going to organise a mass fund-raising event next year in the hope to get a house for the orphans.

“We also hope to get 20 orphans by the end of next year as we already have the transport amenity from SIDMA College,” he added.
