FOUR-CAR COLLISION: Three of the cars involved.

SIBU: The police have been accused of ignoring a minor accident at Deshon Road on Friday night, resulting in a traffic jam that lasted 40 minutes.

Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) Sibu chairman Simon Tiong made the accusation during a press conference yesterday.

He claimed to have been called to the scene by a member of the public following the accident involving four cars at 6.45pm.

Tiong said traffic police were at the scene, but left not long after.

“The drivers became impatient. I am puzzled. Traffic policemen had arrived, but, they left shortly without directing the traffic to ease the jam,” he said.

Tiong claimed he called Sibu police chief ACP Shafie Ismail, who had promised to look into his complaint.

“Although it was a minor accident that resulted only in the cars damaged, the situation was chaotic because the accident involved four vehicles.

“In the end, I had to direct the traffic. I hope Shafie will look into the complaint. If traffic policemen had failed in their duty, improve their work ethic,” he added.
