KOTA KINABALU: Sabah is on track to record a decline in road fatalities and burglary cases with the implementation of ‘Ops Selamat III’ in conjunction with the Hari Raya Aidilfitri.

Disclosing this here yesterday, Internal Security and Public Order director Datuk Seri Salleh Mat Rasid said he was confident of recording such success after the Sabah Police Contingent had taken the initiative to pre-launch Ops Selamat III much earlier to ensure smooth operation before the actual launch.

“The Sabah Police Contingent under Police Commissioner Datuh Hamza Taib, had actually pre-launched Ops Selamat III on August 2 in Semporna.

“Such move is seen as a proactive move by the Sabah Police Contingent to inform the public in advance on road safety and crime prevention measures during the Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration,” he said during a working visit to the state in conjunction with the launch of Ops Selamat III along the Putatan-Papar Road in front of the Lok Kawi Camp in Putatan yesterday.

Also present were Hamza, Sabah Brigade Commander of the General Operations Force (GOF) Senior Assistant Commissioner Datuk Ahmad Marzuki Mohd Said, Penampang police chief DSP Ratan Kumar Singh and other senior police officers.

Meanwhile, Salleh said the Sabah Police Contingent had won first and second places in the previous Ops Selamat in terms of reducing road fatalities and burglary cases.

“For the record, the Sabah Police Contingent had won first and second places during Ops Selamat I and Ops Selamat II respectively.

“And I believe the Sabah Police Contingent can once again obtain positive record to reduce road fatalities and burglary cases through Ops Selamat III,” he said.

Elaborating further, Salleh said the slogan of Ops Selamat III, ‘Rumah Selamat, Selamat Sampai Ke Destinasi’ (Safe Home, Safe Journey to Destination) was also the concern of the community who would leave their home to ‘balik kampung’ for Hari Raya.

“While our effort is to reduce road fatalities, the police will also ensure safety of residence from being victimized or burglarise,” said Salleh, adding that the public must also play their part in combating crimes and burglary cases.
