Phone rebate ‘off the hook’ at MCMC

KUCHING: A ‘system down’ at Malaysian Communication and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) online phone rebate application has led to frustration for those who wished to claim the phone rebate.

According to Nor Aminah Julaihi who contacted The Borneo Post yesterday, she experienced the alleged ‘system down’ for two weeks after registering for the phone rebate through MCMC’s website.

“However, I cannot claim the phone (rebate) as the shop offering the rebate said the system has been down. It is a disappointment as this thing has been going on for almost two weeks,” said Aminah.

She added that she had been to various phone shops offering the rebate but the answer she got was the same – in the negative.

“They told me that it was the first time the system had gone down. It is troublesome especially for those who wanted to claim the phone (rebate) but then stay far away from the city,” she said.

She urged MCMC to look into the matter urgently as the period to claim the rebate is only for three months from the moment they registered for the rebate.

The Borneo Post went to check two Telco operator centres offering the rebate, in Satok and a leading shopping mall here. Their salesperson revealed that the system has been down for several days already.

“We heard that it will take at least two weeks before the system will be back to normal,” said a salesperson.
