SRI AMAN: The dilapidated pedestrian walkway which connects Taman Panorama Benak and the Batang Lupar Waterfront will be upgraded at a cost of RM480,000 to provide safety and comfort to revellers during the annual Tidal Bore Festival.

According to Assistant Minister for Rural Development Datuk Francis Harden Hollis, the construction of the pedestrian bridge will commence after Hari Raya Aidilfitri and is expected to be completed in Sept 2014.

“The construction will begin by removing the current walkway which has several sunken areas which are dangerous,” said Harden to reporters during a site visit yesterday.

The Simanggang assemblyman also said that funds for the project were approved by the Department of Irrigation and Drainage (DID) in March.

Once completed, Harden is optimistic that the area will be able to accommodate hundreds of revellers to the Tidal Bore Festival which is held annually in October.

Accompanying him during the visit were Sri Aman DID engineer Normah Yusni Annnuar, Kapitan Kuek Aik Seng, Kapitan Tay Siew Chuan and SUPP Simanggang Youth deputy chief Patrick Michael Malajin.
