FALSE ALARM : Lim shows his training programme leaflet as he explains that the ‘shooting’ incident was just part of their training programme.

SIBU: Pictures of two injured persons lying on the five-foot-way of a row of shops at Tuanku Osman Road posted on a social networking site set the town abuzz with rumours of another shooting case here yesterday.

It was speculated that one of the two injured persons had died after both were shot in broad daylight.

Upon learning about the report the police here rushed to the scene but left bemused as there was no sign of the bodies there.

There were many red faces later when it transpired that the ‘murder’ was actually a simulation of a knife attack by a company conducting a first aid and emergency training.

Yesterday, Jet Lim, a manager of GEM Consultancy Sdn Bhd, the company which conducted the training, told a press conference that they conducted the training for the staff of a company on Saturday from 10am to 11am.

“The office of my client upstairs does not have enough space, so we decided to hold the training at the five-foot-way downstairs.”

Lim believed members of the public had taken pictures of their training and posted them online sparking fears of another round of violence among jittery residents here.

Lim said he had clarified the incident with the police after he read about the ‘shooting’ in Chinese newspapers  and received numerous calls from his client.

“We actually created a scene where two men were stabbed with knives in a robbery and help educate the staff of my client to give emergency aid,” he explained.

Lim, who was the director of the scene, said a dozen actors were involved.

His company is holding a similar training for a hotel in town next month and Lim assured that he would put up a banner to inform the public  that ‘incidents’ they might see would be only simulated attacks acted out for training purposes.
