SIBU: Blood stock at the Sibu Blood Bank has plummeted to shortage level, prompting the bank’s publicity officer Kenneth Numan to call for more people to donate blood.

He said yesterday that it was difficulty to locate donors during the long holiday.

“We noted of high usage during the long holiday and stock level for all blood groups is very low, especially B and O.

“Therefore, we need donors to come in big number to increase our stock,” he said, adding that the bank remained open until 10pm for today.

Meanwhile, the Sibu Body Building Association will hold a blood donation exercise come Saturday at 8.30am at the blood bank.

“On Sunday, the bank’s mobile unit will be at Tien En Methodist Church for another blood donation exercise, 8.30am till 12.30pm,” Kenneth said.

Donors are required to take more than five hours of sleep to avoid getting rejected from the drive.

They must not be on medication and that their last date of donating was more than three months ago.

They also need to also stay clear of any alcohol at least a day before donating. Donors may call 084-343 333 ext 2010 for further information.
