SERIAN: The Women, Family and Community Development Ministry will channel RM20,000 from the National Welfare Foundation (YKN) to the disaster fund for the Tinggang Ak Sabai Longhouse fire victims at Kampung Soh, Batu 27, Jalan Kuching-Serian.

Its minister Datuk Rohani Abdul Karim said yesterday that the contribution was an addition to the aid given by the state Social Welfare Department to the 42 victims from six families.

“The victims will also receive RM100 per family for kitchenware, RM70 per person for clothing and RM40 cash per person.

“The students among them will receive RM70 each for uniforms and RM50 each for school items, while each household will get RM2,500 for building materials,” she told reporters after visiting the fire site, accompanied by Muara Tuang assemblyman Datuk Seri Mohd Ali Mahmud.

She said the department would disburse RM21,720 to victims eligible for further assistance.

Meanwhile, Mohd Ali said they would hold a discussion with the Samarahan Resident’s office on buiding a new longhouse at the site.

In another development, Rohani said the fire victims at Kampung Puah Bahagia, Sentul and Kampung Datuk Keramat in Kuala Lumpur would also receive similar aid; she said the ministry had already rendered basic assistance to them. — Bernama
