KUCHING: The headquarters of Sarawak Energy Berhad (SEB) at The Isthmus has attracted many visitors after it was accredited green building status.

Its communication manager Ahadiah Zamhari said the building – Menara Sarawak Energy – is the first of its kind in East Malaysia built specifically under the Non-Residential New Construction (NRNC) Category for Green Building Index (GBI).

“We were surprised that the building won GBI silver rating this year under that category. Initially we only expected it to get just the certification,” she said when met at SEB headquarters yesterday.

She said the building has attracted the public due to its uniqueness and it is sought by college students from public and private colleges.

Ahadiah revealed that they were recently visited by a group of 36 from Electronic & Electronic (E&E) Faculty of Kolej Laila Taib of Sibu who were on education tour.

“The entourage visited the unique building to learn more about it,” she said.

Ahadiah said the enthusiastic students were led by their senior lecturer Tiong Tung Chuan, accompanied by two other lecturers, Alan Tiong Yew and David Sung.

While there, the group attended a briefing conducted by the technical team from Sarawak Energy’s Property Management Services focusing on the building’s structure, its facilities, innovations and operations.

“The uniqueness of this building allows the students and lecturers to take the opportunity to ask questions on its solar panels, how much savings was achieved, the impact on the prism effect (in the basement), water harvesting, automatic lighting system and so on,“ she added.

Ahadiah said the SEB headquarters has a place for visitors to find out more about the electricity industry in Sarawak. The information is available at Galleria and Museum.
