KUCHING: Sarawak take on Perak today for their first Malaysia Cup match in Ipoh hoping for a win to boost the team’s morale.
Head coach Robert Alberts admitted that it is not an easy task, as all teams who qualified for the competition are formidable.
Speaking to The Borneo Post yesterday, he said Sarawak needs a little bit of luck in the Malaysia Cup as it is a cup competition, not the league.
“We will just have to do our very best as this is a cup competition. There is no way that any team will go down without fighting,” he added.
He pointed to Perak having a top strikeforce and the Crocs having to fend off their attacks.
In particular the Crocs have to be wary of Paulo Rangel, a player currently on loan from Thai club side Muangthong United, who has been in lethal form. He has scored nine times in 10 appearances for Perak.
Hairol Mokhtar might start tonight in Sarawak’s back four, subject to a fitness report and assessment on his injury.
“I am very positive that Hairol will start tomorrow (today) but we must first make sure that he is fully fit for the match,” said Alberts.
Other backs who might get the nod for the start are Ramesh Lai Ban Huat, Mafry Balang, Ronny Harun.
In midfield, Alberts might play Junior Eldstal with Joseph Kalang, Guy Bwele and Zamri Morshidi.
Sani Anuar Kamsani will again be tasked to start between the posts while Bobby Gonzales and Muamer Salibasic will spearhead the attacks.
The Sarawak versus Perak match kicks off at 8.45pm.
