Ministry wants feedback from ground on education

KUCHING: The Ministry of Education Malaysia welcomes views, suggestions and even complaints in efforts to improve its service for the betterment of the education system.

Deputy Minister of Education 1, Datuk Mary Yap Kain Chin, said the ministry had always been keen to receive responsible, rational and constructive feedback from the people to help strengthen the country’s education system.

“As a caring ministry, we have provided various channels for the people to give their suggestions and complaints. Each complaint will be taken seriously and will be investigated in detailed,” she said when launching the ministry’s ‘Meet Customers Day’ at tHe Spring shopping mall yesterday.

She said the ‘Meet Customers Day’ was among the government’s efforts to provide a channel for the people to forward their feedback.

She added that the mimistry’s complaint management system (ISPAAA) implementation allowed all complaints from customers at ministry level, state education department, division education department, and individuals, to be recorded and assessed for solutions.

According to her, up till June this year, a total of 2,156 complaints had been received and the complaints included teachers placement, school assessment management system, request for interim teachers to be given permanent posts, allowance for students of teachers training institute, and special building for the physically challenge students.

“We have taken all these complaints seriously and we are looking into them to provide the best solution to give satisfaction to our customers,” she said.

Yap said the ‘Meet Customers Day’ was also a ‘going to the ground’ programme to meet students, parents, and members of the public directly to spread information on KPM’s programmes and activities.

Through this event, the ministry will be also be able to create awareness on the various facilities and assistance provided to the people.

During the two-day event, she said visitors could gain a lot of information on opportunities to further studies at various levels such as full boarding schools, matriculation, vocational and techniques education, facilities for students who require special need and financial assistance for poor students, as well as opportunity to enroll in the teaching field.

State Education Department director Abdillah Adam and head of corporate special affairs section, corporate communication unit Abdul Kahar Harun were among those present yesterday.
