MIRI: Sarawak secured about RM4.4 billion in investments in the first five months of this year, said Second Minister of Finance Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh.

Of this amount, RM3 billion are foreign investments.

“Because of this positive development, the government is very confident that the Sarawak Corridor of Renewable Energy (SCORE) will be able to accelerate development and economic activities in the state, and transform Sarawak into a developed state by year 2020,” said Wong.

He said this at The Federation of Heng Ann Malaysia, Youth and Women Annual General Meeting (AGM) Dinner cum Appreciation Night for Senior Members here on Friday.

Wong, who is also Minister of Local Government and Community Development, was representing Chief Minister Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud to officiate at the function.

To ensure continued development in the state, Wong said the people must continue to work hard and give their full support to the government.

This was because political stability and unity were crucial for the economy to thrive, he stressed.

On the association, Wong advised them not to concentrate solely on recruiting new members.

They should also spend time on culture-preservation initiatives and mould their young members to become good leaders.

Also present were The Federation of Heng Ann Malaysia president Datuk Ong Seng Keh, Miri Hing Ann Association president Datuk David Goh and organising chairman Deng Tiong Hock.
