KUCHING: Conventional and traditional method of learning ought to be modified and enhanced in line with the advancement of technology in order to produce a knowledgeable and capable young generation who can adapt to the challenging and ever-changing global environment.

Minister of Social Development Tan Sri William Mawan said this is crucial to prepare and equip the younger generation who will lead the country and propel the nation to further success in the global stage come 2020.

“The rapid development of science and technology has opened up opportunities for our younger generation to gain further knowledge as their education process is now within the social media era which offers various mediums and reference to choose from,” he said in his text of speech read by Assistant Minister of Culture and Heritage Liwan Lagang at the launching of the Petrosains DinoTrek 2 at Dewan Tun Abdul Razak Museum here yesterday.

In view of this, he said collaboration between the government and organisations such as Petronas which had always emphasised on education, skills and technology, would facilitate in increasing the education of Malaysian students.

“The Petrosains DinoTrek 2 exhibition is an exciting alternative of learning outside the classroom with its unique and fun learning environment that will spark interests and curiosity amongst students.

“It is a creative method to foster interest towards learning especially through its animatronic and interactive dinosaur exhibits,” he emphasised.

Meanwhile, Petrosains chief executive officer Tengku Nasariah Tengku Syed Ibrahim said the Petrosains DinoTrek 2 exhibition with its concept of lifelong learning is part of Petrosains’ effort in organising various outreach education programmes throughout the country.

“Dinosaurs are considered one of the favoured topics among people of all ages throughout the world and we hope that through this exhibition which touches on the pre-historic life of the dinosaurs, it would encourage the people here to show an interest in science, technology and palaeontology,” she added.

Also present at the launch were Assistant Minister of Tourism Datuk Talib Zulpilip and State Museum Department director Ipoi Datan.

Petrosains DinoTrek 2 is a travelling dinosaur exhibition brought by Petrosains featuring nine animatronic dinosaurs which allows visitors to view them up close and personal for a truly exciting experience.

The exhibition, held in Kuching for the second time, comprises 12 highly interactive exhibits, allowing families to experience the process of discovery and hands-on learning. Open to the public from now until April 2014, Petrosains Dinotrek 2 operates from 8.30am to 5.30pm daily with the last admission at 4.30pm.

Tickets are priced at RM10 for adults and RM5 for visitors aged between 5 and 17 years old.
