KUALA LUMPUR: Former CID director Tan Sri Zaman Khan Rahim Khan has clarified that his statement pertaining to a former convict and triad chief, who also dabbled in politics, referred to an episode in the past.

He said the matter came to light while he was still serving in the police force.

He said the man in question was arrested in Thailand, prosecuted in Malaysia, sentenced to jail and had served his time.

That individual, Zaman Khan recalled, was the then-head of a secret society in Malaysia.

“I was merely referring to a case which occurred in the past, not presently,” he told Bernama here yesterday.

A news report yesterday, had cited him as saying that the person in question was now a low-ranking leader in a political party in Penang. — Bernama
