Filipinos charged with murder of fellow countryman

KOTA KINABALU: The Magistrate’s Court here yesterday charged two Filipino labourers with murdering their fellow countryman.

No plea was recorded from Ibno Saud, 27 and Moksin Yasir, 21, who appeared before magistrate Ryan Sangiraan Rayner Jr.

They were alleged to have killed a 29-year-old Ibnu Parahan by slitting his throat at a water tank at Kampung Binaung Baru in Menggatal between August 21 and 22.

The charge was under Section 302 of the Penal Code which carries the mandatory death sentence, upon conviction.

The court set Oct 9 this year for re-mention of the case pending post-mortem, DNA and chemist reports of the victim.

The two accused persons were ordered to be further held in custody pending disposal of the case.

In a separate case, Indonesian Joko Hadi Mulyono, 34, was jailed for eight months by the same court for molesting a teenage girl in front of an office at Jalan Singgah Mata here on Sept 3.

He was charged under Section 354 of the Penal Code which is punishable by a maximum jail of 10 years and whipping and also liable to a fine, upon conviction.

Joko was also ordered to be referred to the Immigration Department for further action after serving his jail sentence.

In an unrelated case, Ryan fixed Oct 3 this year for the management of a 29-year-old army, Asri Amiruddin, who pleaded not guilty to threatening a policeman.

Asri was accused of making the threat through short messaging service (SMS) stating that “Jangan sampai saya cari kau” (Don’t wait until I look for you) at a house at Kampung Malawa in Sepanggar on June 12, 2011.

The indictment under Section 8 (1) (e) of the Minor Offences Ordinance carries a maximum fine of RM25, upon conviction.

The court released him on RM1,200 bail with two local sureties and to report to the investigating officer once in every two weeks, pending disposal of the case.

Prosecuting officer (PO) Inspector Syahrin Ali appeared for the prosecution.

Meanwhile, an Egyptian was fined RM4,000, in default, four months in jail by the Immigration Court here for giving fake statements in order to get a valid document to live in Sabah.

Judge Azreena Aziz imposed the fine on Ahmed Mohamed Sayed Mohamed, 38, after he pleaded guilty to a charge under Section 56 (1) (k) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 which is punishable under Section 56 (1) (aa) of the same Act.

The offence carries a maximum fine of RM10,000 or a jail term of up to five years, upon conviction.

The accused, who was defended by counsel Hairul V. Othman, admitted to giving his fake statement at the arresting unit of the enforcement office at Federal Building of Jalan Sulamang here on Aug 21.
