Oil and gas skill training centre for east coast proposed


KOTA KINABALU: Deputy Chief Minister cum Minister of Industrial Development Datuk Raymond Shu Kiah has expressed his keenness to have an oil and gas skill training centre to be built in east coast of Sabah.

He disclosed this when a Talisman Malaysia Limited delegation called on him at his office on Thursday.

Talisman Malaysia has managed a few operational activities in Sabah and wishes to groom its business in Sabah at the same time to be fully committed with its corporate social responsibility in Sabah, including the environmental, socio-economic and educational programme.

The Canadian company’s senior vice president and country manager, Ron Aston, said they also had intention to assist in setting up the oil and gas skill training centre in Sabah with the collaboration of Petronas Carigali Sabah and Petroleum Management Unit of Petronas (PMU) in order to boost a multiplier effect in Sabah.

Raymond urged Talisman Malaysia to be more active in developing oil and gas activities in Sabah and to be focus on educational programme, especially in building up skilled human resource from local people, especially the future generation.

Thus, in line with the state government’s effort in making Sandakan the education hub in Sabah, it will be pleasant to have the oil and gas skill training centre here in the east coast, Raymond said.
