Reject proposal to bring back RON92 – Junz

KOTA KINABALU: Likas assemblyman Junz Wong was unimpressed with the federal government for considering the proposal to bring back the RON92 petrol fuel.

“By bringing back RON92, which was removed a few years back, Malaysia would be moving backward while trying to achieve Vision 2020, making a real mockery of Malaysia’s determination and political will to achieve a high-income nation,” Junz claimed.

“It seems that the government has failed both to address the real issue on hand and to understand the problems faced by fellow Malaysians.

“Instead of focusing on the real problem faced by the people, BN is asking the Rakyat to downgrade their standard of living after 50 years of the formation of Malaysia. What kind of government would ask her people to strive for less quality of life,” Junz asked in a statement, yesterday.

He said the BN government should reduce the people’s reliance on petrol and diesel by upgrading public transportation.

“Set up a team immediately to do comprehensive studies to address issues such as parking problems, traffic congestion and how to set up a monorail system in Sabah. With these, the people will have the confidence of public transportation and therefore rely less on cars, and thus less petrol and diesel usage,” Junz said.

Junz said the BN government could also look at alternative solutions such as removing subsidies for corporations such as IPPs, restructure the economic system to ensure fairer distributions, practice open competitive tenders to ensure public spending was cost effective, and increase household income to cope with the rising cost of living.

“If the BN government opted for RON92 as a solution it is a pathetic way out by asking the Rakyat to compromise our standard of living while coping with the rising cost of living,” Junz said.

“No matter what solution BN eventually would come out with, we must reject the proposal to re-introduce RON92, and move forward instead of moving backward,” Junz concluded
