SANDAKAN: Twenty-two people were detained during the first Ops Cantas Khas in the district on Friday night.

Sandakan police chief ACP Rowell Marong said 40 persons were roped in during the operation at the Mile 7 squatters settlement and 22 of them were subsequently detained for not having identification documents.

The operation involving 184 personnel was jointly carried out with the National Registration Department, Immigration Department and Commercial Vehicle Licensing Board here.

It was held from 10pm to 2am at several areas in Sandakan district. Two roadblocks were also set up in Jalan Lintas Labuk here.

According to Rowell, the swoop aimed at flushing out bad hats and criminal elements.

“Malaysia Day is around the corner so we are going to carry out Ops Cantas Khas more frequently,” he added.
