SIBU: Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) has been engaging youths in the state as it recognises the key role they play in the future of the party.

PBB Youth chief Datuk Fadillah Yusof, who is also state BN youth chief, said yesterday recruiting youth had been an on-going effort of the party.

He was responding to a call by PBB secretary-general Datuk Stephen Rundi who reportedly said it was imperative for the party to recruit the youths in Form Five and undergraduates from institutions of higher learning.

Dr Rundi was also quoted to have said that the party must empower both the women and youth to go all out to recruit new members.

Meanwhile, PBB supreme council member Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said yesterday other segments of voters must also be approached as well.

“I don’t deny that youths play a big part in determining the winner or loser in elections. However, I don’t see them as the trump card in determining the winner as every voter at whatever age, too are important.

“As such, we have to approach and engage all voters and prospective voters whether they are still in school, in their twenties, thirties and forties,” Abdul Karim, who is Assistant Minister of Youth Development and Asajaya assemblyman, said.

PBB Nangka branch chairman Dr Annuar Rapaee said both their youth and women wings were all out to recruit more youth members.

“One person is to rope in five new members,” disclosed Dr Annuar, who is Nangka assemblyman.

He pointed out that other four branches, namely Dudong, Bawang Assan, Bukit Assek and Pelawan were also recruiting the youths.
