SERIAN: A lorry attendant was killed after the three-tonne vehicle he was in collided head-on with a trailer along Jalan Ri’i-Tebakang here on Friday afternoon.
The 51-year-old deceased, identified as Connie Renyek of Kampung Kujang Mawang in Tebedu, sustained head and body injuries and died at the scene of the crash.
Connie was sitting in the front passenger seat of the lorry, driven by a 44-year-old co-worker, when the accident occurred around 1.10pm.
Firemen were called to the scene to extricate the lorry driver from the wrecked vehicle, which partially ended up in a ditch by the roadside, before paramedics rushed him to Serian Hospital for treatment.
The trailer driver, also aged 51, was not hurt in the incident.
District police chief DSP Mohd Jamali Umi said that initial investigation revealed that the lorry driver lost control of his vehicle, which then swerved into the opposite lane and crashed into the oncoming trailer.
