TONGOD, Sabah: All party posts in the Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) Supreme Council except the president are expected to be hotly contested by aspiring leaders in the upcoming PBS Delegates Conference that will be held from Oct 21-23.
PBS Secretary-General Datuk Henrynus Amin said the PBS Supreme Council had resolved that except for the post of PBS president, all other posts in the PBS Supreme Council would be open for contest.
He said this was agreed unanimously during the recent PBS Supreme Council meeting chaired by party president Tan Sri Joseph Pairin Kitingan.
Henrynus said the proposal for an open contest of all posts in the PBS Supreme Council except fpr PBS president had the support of several PBS divisional chiefs, including the PBS divisions chiefs from Pantai Manis, Liawan, Melalap and Bingkor as stated in their respective press statements.
“This is a clear indication that PBS grassroots leaders at divisional level want an open contest to enable them to exercise their right to choose the leader they want,” he said when opening PBS Kuamut division’s Annual General Meeting, here yesterday.
He said, until yesterday no PBS party division had called for any of the deputy presidents post to be uncontested.
Henrynus said during the recent PBS Supreme Council meeting Pairin had consented to the open contest in line with democratic principles practiced by the party and the fact that the PBS constitution provided for party elections every three years to allow PBS grassroots leaders to shape the future direction of the party.
He urged party members not to listen to certain unfounded rumours promoting no contest for the deputy president posts. — Bernama
