Youth in suicide bid leaps from 8th floor of Pelita Car Park

KUCHING: The lifeless body of a 21-year-old youth believed to have jumped from the eighth floor of Medan Pelita Carpark was found lying on the road at about 1am yesterday.

Identified as Phang Zhen Sen, he was suspected to have suffered depression following the recent demise of his friend.

His body was discovered by a staff at the carpark who was on his way to dispose of garbage.

The staff at first thought he was another drunken youth using the road for a bed.

After finding Phang was not moving nor sleeping but had head injuries, he alerted the relevant authorities.

Investigating officers and medical personnel rushed to the scene but a crowd of curious spectators had gathered.

No eye-witness came forward. Police sealed off the area with yellow tape.

The authorities discovered from a CCTV installed at a lodging next to the carpark that Phang had jumped from the

multi-level carpark at about 1.05am.

By 3am, investigating officers found shoe prints on the wall beneath the railings near Level 8A which was where the young man had leapt.

Police found a letter addressed to Phang’s family, saying Phang been hearing the voice of his deceased buddy. Phang said he had chosen to end his life to reunite with his buddy in another world.

According to sources, Phang was supposed to further his studies in Australia after completing a course at a university in Simpang Tiga. Police have classified the case as sudden death.
