7K Charity Run draws 14,000

Penyuki flags off the participants of the Sutera Harbour 7K Sunset Charity Run yesterday.

KOTA KINABALU: The annual Sutera Harbour 7K Sunset Charity Run continued to receive strong support from not only sponsors but also 14,000 people who turned out to participate in its 13th edition here yesterday.

The run, which started in 2000, aims to bring the Kota Kinabalu community together in the spirit of giving while promoting a healthier lifestyle in a fun and exciting way.

As in the previous edition, the Run is in aid of the 7K beneficiaries – the Special Olympics Sabah and the Sabah Thalassaemia Society.

After warming up to hot dance numbers led by ZFS team, the participants were flagged off at exactly 5:17pm by the Youth and Sports Ministry’s deputy permanent secretary Penyuki Matta, who represented minister Datuk Tawfiq Abu Bakar Titingan.

Runners from all walks of life took part in the 7Km run where they must meet the 77 minutes time limit to be eligible for the lucky draws.

There was also a second flag off by Mayor Datuk Abidin Madingkir for the Special Olympics Sabah and Sabah Thalassaemia Society.

The guest of honour including Penyuki, Abidin, Assistant Minister to the Chief Minister Datuk Edward Yong, Sutera Harbour Marina, Golf and Country Club (SHMGCC) general manager Howie Roberts and other invited guests accompanied the 7K beneficiaries in the Run.

Those who were not participating enjoyed themselves at the 7K Carnival tucking into the many mouth-watering local and international delicacies as well as various offerings from the sponsors.

As the last batch of runners returned, the deejays from ERA FM KK, MyFM KK and Hitz.fm KK continued to entertain the crowd.

Entertainers from local talents including TAKT, Apis Paschya, Theo, Vons, April, Pure Harmony, Hippocamps, Diary of Us, Dang Bangs and Janrywine wowed the crowd with their energetic performances.

The litter-free 7K Run is supported by the City Hall, Youth and Sports Ministry, the Federal Youth and Sports Department of Sabah.

The official drink is F&N/100Plus and the official radio stations are Era FM KK, MyFM KK, Hitz.fm KK.

The main sponsors are Sayfol International School and Volkswagen Kota Kinabalu. Others are DIGI, Mah Sing group, Malta and Sounds Tech Production.

Meanwhile, all the net profits from the 7K Run through registration, sales of coupons and sponsorship/donations from the public will be divided equally between the two beneficiaries.
