RTM Miri gets pat on the back for developing singing talents

BAKONG: Radio Television Malaysia (RTM), Miri, has been given a pat on the back for helping to develop singing talents.

Assistant Minister of Public Utilities (Water Supply), Datuk Sylvester Entri Muran said by organising singing competitions such as Bintang Radio Mirifm, RTM Miri was not only serving entertainment, but also provided a platform for new talents to venture forth.

“Kudos for successfully producing many artistes and singers through singing competitions, including Bintang Radio Mirifm, which entered the 7th edition this year,”  said Entri at the Bintang Radio Mirifm final in Bakong Community Hall on Friday.

Also present were Mirifm head of programme Dayang Fatimah Awang Lai and Iban Service head Simon Suti.

Entri also advised singing enthusiasts to prepare themselves well so that they could deliver high quality performances in all competitions. He added that the music and singing industry could provide them with a lucrative income.

In the final, Alia Mathew beat seven competitors with her rendition of ‘Terumpang Pelepa Pengerindu’ to come out top.

She won herself RM1,000, a trophy and certificate. David Vyner Maringai, with his song ‘Api Kulat Malam’, came in second, and third place went to Romeo Mathew, who sang ‘Lyana’ They won RM700 andRM500 cash respectively, plus trophies and certificates.

The best performer title, which carried a cash prize of RM200, trophy and certificate, went to Robin Ugau.

The other four finalists who received consolation prizes were Ron Barnabas, Thomas Danggang, Santy Bilun, Ling Ming Tai.
