BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN: A ceremony was yesterday held to witness the handing over of duties between three senior Fire and Rescue Department officials at the Operation ‘F’ Branch at the Tumasek Fire Station, Borneo Bulletin reported.

The day saw Assistant Superintendent Suhaimi bin Haji Muhammad from Pengkalan Batu Fire Station being transferred to the Jerudong Fire Station; Station Officer Haji Hassan bin Haji Jamuddin shifted from Jerudong Fire Station to the Tumasek Fire Station; and Station Officer Mohammad bin Haji Hashim moved to Pengkalan Batu Fire Station from the Tumasek Fire Station.

On hand to witness the ceremony was Senior Superintendent Haji Janaidi bin Haji Gunong, the Commanding Officer of Operation ‘F’ branch.

In his speech, Hj Janaidi explained that the transfer of personnel within an organisation allows for growth and opportunities to become creative, innovative and in acquiring value added leadership skills. This in turn improves the accomplishment level of a station.

At the same time, there are some who refuse to be transferred. One of the reasons for this is fear. Fear of the unfamiliar and the inability to adapt. Another reason is lack of confidence in the face of possible problems and challenges, which forces them out of their comfort zone, he said.

On this note, he pointed out that success in executing their duties and tasks is dependent on how well they understand the vision, mission and strategic plan set by the Fire and Rescue Department. If this can be adapted to, understood and implemented, then these personnel would be capable of leading their subordinates.

“Thus, our primary mandate is to identify areas that have become our department’s best practices. In other words, we will continue to evaluate, examine and prescribe rules/solutions that are more practical and effective, ones that can be incorporated into modern management,” he added.
