SIBU: Saberkas with its ideal blend of 70 per cent youths and 30 per cent veterans could be a ‘magnet’ to draw young people to make it the best youth organisation in Sarawak.

Its deputy secretary-general Abu Seman Jahwie in his opening remarks at Majlis Ramah Tamah Aidil Fitri’ for central zone cum Saberkas leadership award recently, said the organisation was an excellent platform to groom youths as future leaders.

He was the event’s organising chairman.

“This is where youths can learn leadership, organising and managing skills to prepare themselves for future endeavour,” Abu Seman, who is Jemoreng assemblyman noted.

He said the 30 per cent matured members would ensure that the organisation continued to be led by capable leaders while preparing the next echelon leaders.

Meanwhile, its secretary-general Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi, who also spoke at the occasion, said Saberkas since its inception some 40 years ago, had contributed much to the development of Sarawak.

He pointed out that 71 branches in all the state constituencies would facilitate youths joining them.

This he said was important to ensure a steady line of leaders.

Dr Abdul Rahman mentioned that over the years Saberkas had produced many good leaders.

Meanwhile, some 200 members from the central zone, namely Kapit, Sarikei, Meradong, Kanowit, Song, Sibu, Daro, Matu, Dalat and Mukah attended the function.

Saberkas president Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Openg, who is also Housing Minister and Tourism Minister, officiated at the function.

The night was made merrier with a magic show and poco-poco dances performances as well as a lucky draw.
