Unimas to host World Hybrid Technologies and Energy confab

KUCHING: Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas), in partnership with Asia Pacific Society for Solar and Hybrid Technologies, is set to host World Hybrid Technologies and Energy conference from Sept 30 to Oct 1.

This conference, which carries the theme ‘Excellence in Industrial Education’, is also part of the university’s International Festival of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEMFest) 2013.

Focused on industrial education, the conference will attract around 100 engineering educators and industry professionals from the global energy sector.

The keynote speakers are Dr Peter Thong from International Energy Conservation Environmental Protection Association, Dr Nader Barsoum the president of Asia Pacific Society for Solar and Hybrid Technologies, Dr Stuart Blanch the director of Environment Centre NT, Sharul Azwa Abd Rani senior engineer of Land Public Transport Commission, Goh Wei Chiun senior engineer of Sarawak Energy Berhad and Professor Dr Wan Hashim Wan Ibrahim the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering at Unimas.

The conference, which will also feature 40 papers related to energy and hybrid, will be chaired by Dr Syed Tarmizi Syed Shazali, Dr Kismet Hong Ping, Associate Professor Dr Khairuddin Saunallah and Dr Leonard Lim Lik Pueh.

Sponsoring the attendance of 100 engineering educators in related disciplines is Tabung Ekonomi Gagasan Anak Bumiputera Sarawak (Tegas), with the outcome being that they will be able to contribute towards ensuring that 100 remote communities in Sarawak can get access to renewable electricity.

Tegas chairman Datu Len Talif Salleh will officiate at the opening of the conference at 9am on Sept 30.
