SERIAN: Armed forces veterans should not feel being sidelined since there are many government aid to help them lead normal lives.

Infrastructure Development and Communications Minister Dato Sri Michael Manyin, who said this, hoped the veterans would continue to contribute to society and guide the younger generation.

“It is hoped that veterans, together with those who are still in service, will continue to remain high spirited in facing challenges in post-service life. We hope they would also play their part in motivating our younger generation to succeed.

“As far as the government is concerned, we always make sure the welfare of the veterans is well taken care of. This includes those who had passed away or were injured,” he said at the Malaysia Ex-Servicemen Association (PBTM) Serian branch dinner at Serian Community Hall recently.

Manyin, who is also Tebedu assemblyman, mentioned that people in Sarawak were thankful for the contributions and sacrifices made by the servicemen to ensure peace and stability continue to prevail.

He said the well-being and prosperity in the country would not be achieved if the servicemen had not defended the country’s sovereignty.

“What we enjoy now is because of the sacrifices rendered by them to defend our country to ensure we progress and develop, and stay on the right track to realise Vision 2020.”

During the dinner, he pledged an allocation of RM20,000 to PBTM Serian branch. He also presented Pingat Jasa Malaysia (PJM) to 20 recipients and contributions to disabled veterans and widows of deceased veterans.
