No legal effect on pronouncement of Teo, Chin’s election as LDP’s No. 1 and 2

KO TA K I NA BA LU : T h e pronouncement of Datuk Teo Chee Kang and Senator Datuk Chin Su Phin as the Liberal Democratic Party’s (LDP) number one and two men respectively by the unrecognised LDP Election chairman Yong Wui Chung on Wednesday had no legal effect, said the party’s secretary-general Loretto Padua Jr.

He explained Chin and Teo had be en suspended sinc e August this year and therefore, could not us e thei r r e c ent resolutions passed in a purported E x t r a o r d i n a r y G e n e r a l Meeting (EGM) to legalise their positions.

“From the legal stand point, their actions were void from the very beginning. Furthermore, the LDP Disciplinary Committee has resolved to suspend them since Oct 2.

“Al l of t hem we r e g ive n the oppor tunity to explai n why action should not be taken against them, but they failed to turn up during the inquiry despite having received the letter of noti fication,” he said in a statement here yesterday.
